In Willamina, Oregon, there’s a roughly forty-year-old, forty-foot-long anagama, based on a ninth-century Korean climbing kiln design. After a few emails back and forth with the owner, we had worked out a three-month-long work-trade, and I moved there in January of 2021.

Lily Williams

Lily Williams is a committed wood-firing potter of the last nine years and a ceramics teacher at a Cascade Ceramics Studio near Portland, Oregon. She incorporates foraged local materials into her clays, which she uses to create functional pots that have a hand-hewn demeanor. Lily finds reprieve and inspiration by being in nature and engaging in primitive, esoteric behaviors.
