Jules Pierce and Daniel Clauson are collaborators/each other's creative catalysts/community gatherers in devotion to clay. Ceramics has been their main form of creative movement and how they have grown together from their beginnings, and how they seek further learning in their futures. Both Jules and Dan hold bachelor's in arts with a focus in ceramics and have been studying with clay for over ten years. Jules and Dan were the Ceramics School’s inaugural wood-fire residents together (2025). Jules has been a long-term clay resident at the Mendocino Art Center (2024-25) and Cider Creek Collective (2024) for woodfiring, and Dan has been an Oxbow, MI woodfire teacher assistant (2025) and has facilitated the Sonoma Ceramics soda kiln for the past two years. While Jules and Dan are ceramic artists, the root of their craft is in gathering. Together they have been building out their collaborative practice to create projects that extend and share the skills of ceramics, wood firing, and create accessible, educational, and non-hierarchical firings for queer and Trans people. Over the past two springs, they have organized Femmes & Themmes & Non-Cis Men Firings. Over the next year, Jules and Dan will be starting Brick by Brick, a project that provides free wood firings for Trans folx who have limited access to kilns due to financial barriers. They currently reside in Northern California and are open to connecting with local kilns and ceramists who want to participate in and/or support this project.
