Christa Assad

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, mid-career artist Christa Assad is best known for her Re-objectification series -- teapot designs based on objects and buildings from American industry. Assad is a teacher, traveler and full time ceramicist with an MFA from Indiana University (1999), and BA from Penn State (1992). Past contributions to Studio Potter include Vol. 38, No. 1, and Vol. 32, No. 2.


In writing about my personal philosophy of sustainability, I considered both my twenty-five-year timeline as a studio artist and my recent plight of surviving a house fire and badly broken back.

These are choices we self-employed creative folks must make at every turn along the path. Often the decisions reflect our constant concern with financial security and our desire to be regarded as successful amongst our friends, family, and colleagues.
