In This Issue
As I release this edition, I am deeply aware of the devastation caused by recent hurricanes that have affected countless communities. Our hearts at Studio Potter go out to all those who have experienced loss, displacement, and hardship due to these natural disasters. We extend our deepest condolences to those grieving, and we stand in solidarity with everyone impacted as they begin the difficult process of recovery.
Art, in its essence, has always been a balm for our wounds and a bridge that joins us in times of separation. As we celebrate the creativity within these pages, we also hold space for the weight of this moment. This very issue was edited and nurtured during a time of great upheaval, as I found myself under mandatory evacuation for over two weeks, watching my community face the heartache of displacement and loss in the wake of the California forest fires. These pages, born in the shadow of that devastation, are a testament to resilience, reflection, and the power of creation amidst chaos.
May these stories and artworks offer a small measure of comfort, resilience, and connection to those who need it most. We send our sincere thoughts and well-wishes to everyone affected and remain hopeful for brighter days ahead.
As a studio artist directly impacted by the devastation of the Montana “500-year flood” in 2022 and now the California “Line” forest fire, I can attest to the value of nonprofit organizations like The Craft Emergency Relief Fund: CERF+. Now more than ever, this nonprofit will need us to champion their cause through mutual aid and financial support. I have also included a list of Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) for each of the affected states. These resources will be one of many that can help identify local, regional, state, and national resources that are available.
With most profound regret and unwavering support,
Randi O’Brien, editor and executive director
