Frank James Fisher

Frank James Fisher is an American ceramic artist known for creating "Pop Artifacts" – ceramic works that incorporate graphic design, headlines, illustrations, and logos into three-dimensional forms. His work is deeply influenced by his background in advertising and reflects on personal narrative, consumer culture, and the nature of mass communication. 

Fisher has authored numerous articles on his methods and philosophy for publications such as Ceramic Monthly, Clay Times, Ceramics Art and Perception, and Pottery Making Illustrated. His work is also featured in multiple ceramic art books.

Fisher taught advanced ceramics at Schoolcraft College and conducts workshops to demonstrate his techniques.

Fisher’s art is exhibited and collected internationally. He maintains a studio in Milford, Michigan.

Electric Raku Kiln?

A growing subculture of raku artists is using unaltered electric kilns for their firings. Some may have arrived at the method through careful consideration of the kiln’s capabilities, while others, like me, may have simply turned to the nearest available kiln in a moment of urgency. However the path begins, the results suggest that the long-standing fears surrounding electric raku firing may be more rooted in caution and habit than in actual experience.
