In the last line in Mary Oliver’s famous poem, “Summer Day,” she asks, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” This quote is a gentle or not-so-gentle reminder when it comes to how I approach my art and my life.
I often hear artists explain that they do not have a degree, making them feel that they don’t have the credentials to be an “artist.” Personally, I do not believe that a diploma alone defines someone as an artist.
